Celebrating Sonos Play and Era 100 SL’s achievements in sustainability
Sonos Play and Era 100 SL reflect our commitment to designing every product with sustainability in mind. Both feature meaningful improvements, from lower idle energy consumption to increased use of recycled materials.
Building on the sustainability features of Era 100, Era 100 SL introduces thoughtful design adjustments to optimize material use. This includes a streamlined foot redesign and a reduction in internal components such as screws, foam, and rubber parts.
Sonos Play Sustainability Highlights

Responsible by Design: Amp Multi for professional installers (coming Fall 2026)
Amp Multi is our first amplifier made with recycled materials — giving plastic waste a second life. With 47% of its plastic content made from recycled sources, it delivers powerful sound with a lighter environmental footprint.
Amp Multi was engineered for energy efficiency from the outset, drawing less than 5.5 watts when idle – 25% lower than Amp, despite offering four times as many channels. Its GaN-based amplification significantly reduces wasted energy compared to traditional designs, allowing the system to deliver high performance while generating less heat.
When not actively playing audio, the system automatically enters a low-power idle state, minimizing energy consumption while remaining instantly responsive for distributed audio use cases. This approach reflects the realities of professionally installed systems, where reliability and immediacy are essential, and balances always-available performance with responsible energy use.
Reducing e-waste and supporting environmental preservation
Our Certified Refurbished program plays a key role in our sustainability efforts by extending the lives of our products, helping reduce e-waste and carbon emissions. Now in our third year as a 1% for the Planet member, we remain committed to donating 1% of all refurbished product sales to high-impact environmental nonprofits, such as the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
Protecting whales with a cleaner, quieter ocean
We joined the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies program in 2023 to support more responsible shipping. Through this initiative, our shipping partners reduce vessel speeds in key marine habitats during peak whale migration periods, helping to lower underwater noise and greenhouse gas emissions. In 2025, Sonos earned a Sapphire Rating with over 90% of our ocean freight through California ports carried by partners participating in voluntary speed reductions.
